July 9-11, 2010 at Colorado Mountain college
Lorri will present participants with a new way of working with clay. Using paperclay (regular ceramic clay with paper pulp added to it), she teaches skills and techniques that encourage fragile and elongated forms that are often regarded as impossible to make and fire. The class will culminate in an actual raku firing during which your piece will be fired so that you will actually leave class with your finished sculpture!

September 2011 Sculpting workshop in italy!!!
What better place to create sculpture than in beautiful Tuscany at the ceramic school "La Meridiana"?
During this field experience, Lorri Acott-Fowler will present participants with a new way of working with clay, and teach students to use the work of other great artists to inform and inspire their own work. Using paperclay (regular ceramic clay with paper fibers added to it), Lorri teaches skills and techniques that encourage fragile and elongated forms that are often regarded as impossible to make and fire. After initial instruction on the methods of creating paperclay sculpture, the we will venture into Florence to be inspired by the sculptural works of Michelangelo, and then return to the studio to create and fire works of our own.
The class will culminate in an actual raku firing during which your piece will be fired so that you will leave class with your finished sculpture. Fun, hands-on and experimental, Lorri will teach you the concepts and techniques and then allow you to "go for it”, opening your mind to a new way of working with clay and helping you to learn to use the work of the masters to inform and inspire your own work.
Students will share housing in the beautiful setting of a traditional Italian villa "Il Testimonio" enjoying access to the nearby towns of Florence, San Gimignano, Sienna, Pisa, and Certaldo. Non-student partners and spouses are invited at a reduced rate.
